Thanks Melle, a timing belt on my best ole girl how very dare you . Good idea for old Dotty though

I have just looked at Malbrads check straps and they are wider but they have a section cut out to fit. I can do that with my Land Rover axles straps (as they are known) and they are really long so should have enough to do both cars.

The POR-15 paint is pretty good. I have used it as a test to do rear crossmembers 100 a time on Defenders. Thanks for that John it has pushed me to do rear crossmembers, most will need doing as well.

Going back to this, a pic of this mornings work with the POR-15 top coat aerosol, good enough for a Defender! After grinding back the rust and acid converting of course!

Just cut up a Series Land Rover axle strap for the 96. Hopefully should fit ok. Treated the brackets and bolts to rust corrector and a lick of paint to the brackets.

Conceded to Dinitrol! After spending sooo many days under that wheel arch, scraping out all the little rust spiders it's such a shame to cover it all in Dinitrol but it makes sense and I will rarely look under there. I have kept the front inner wings in primer for now but will stone chip those also and spray them body colour.

Two coats so far.. ML & 4941, another two coats of 4941 ( it goes on quite thin with an aerosol, much thicker with a compressor gun) then stone chip on top which is over paintable with body colour.

Three wheel arch areas now finally Dinitrolled this evening after all the gesticulation about using a hard paint and keeping it nice BUT I will paint over the stone chip in a body colour when the engine bay and new wings are painted.

I am hoping by the end of next week the rear of the car will be finished with rear wings back on, and new axle straps and the rear stainless steel bumpers in situ.

Guys

Malbrad also has the axle straps at 28 including the eight bolts.
Seems a lot more than the SAABKlubben price of 150 SEk, (with no bolts) which is about 12, but you have VAT to add, international postage to add, and since they don't take PAYPAL, but only work by bank transfers, another 15 odd quid, (depending what your bank charges) for the international bank transfer.
To be honest you could make them yourself, if you can find suitable material. I read somewhere about someone making them out of old fan belts!!

Hi James, very good to meet you and love your early 96. It,s a shame we live poles apart..

It,s time your lovely old girl was pulled out of the garage with the warm weather upon us and a project thread started . It would be nice to see some pics of her. Early V4's are so thin on the ground. Very desireable. I desire her anyway

At last an inner wing is finished, the axle strap is on and I will put the wing back on with help from my daughter tomorrow :D I lept out of bed at 5.45am this morning excited about the red 96, the quicker I get my part of the green one done the quicker I can get on with painting the red one, soooo i rubbed back the rust on the wing edge in the early hours. All sorted before work at 9.00 and have just taken some pics with fresh rust treatment on it. I don,t have any body colour paint so the wing will have to be touched up at a later date. The majority of the mess is under the lip so it shouldn,t be too visible BUT the most important thing is to stop the rust!

Spent the day gardening (everything is sprouting out in the greenhouse) so not much done on the car apart from de-rusting and painting the older type bumper brackets ready for the new SS bumpers to go on. Trial fit... I don,t have any opal green paint so they will be black (they should be body coloured) which actually matches the inside of the bumpers as they now paint them black on the inside so that is good enough for me.

Stone chipped the wing and cleaned up the wing beading, I will fit it in the morning, I am on the beer now with a butchers best steak and ale family pie in the oven as an Easter treat for the family. Putting on a wing half pee,d is not the best idea!
