| I took apart my failing heater unit this weekend, found a spare valve and bolted the whole thing back together (not a 5 minute job!) only to find the spare leaks - badly!
So does anyone have a spare one of these . . .
I only need the valve, not the unit it attaches too, although it would probably be easier.

| not that it helps but I am planning to work on making an alternative to this valve as mine leaks as well.
If your one is going to go to the skip, I could use with one to "experiment" with...

They're not designed to be taken apart and repaired. If you can't see the leak so you can solder it the alternative is to replace it with the water valve a washing machine connects to. Just get 2 half inch elbows and some short straight copper tube and solder together a U shape. Fit the valve to one end of the U and replace the plastic lever on the valve with a metal one (you've got to make this yourself). Then tie the assembly to the plastic cover from the original thermostat and bolt the wire from the heater control to the end of the lever.
You've got to measure a bit first to get it right. I managed to put the valve upside down but it still works....backwards. The thermostat is redundant but I don't think they ever worked well anyway. | |

| Graham Macdonald in Hereford got mine repaired for about £10, but this was about 4 years ago. I had to send my old valve off but used the car by joining the hoses.
Works great now - no leaks.
Might be worth a phone call.

| Further to my post in "At Last", my heater valve leaks. Water droplets were emerging from the centre of the rubber grommet and more so from the crimped joints. I have dismantled it. The rubber appears not to be broken though shows wear but may well reseal with aid of sealants. I will certainly give it a try.

| I left it a day and it seems to be holding water. Will get it back in to the car at the weekend and see what it does under pressure.
