I don't suppose anyone has a set of gudgeon pins in good nick?

My spare engine re-build came to a halt this morning.
Two of the 4 pistons are knackered, but I acquired a good set of pistons from someone on the forum a while back.
The pins that came with them were not the best. I'd hoped we could re-use the currently fitted ones. When we went to change the pistons this morning, and pressed the gudgeon pins out, it was clear that the pins had seen better days.
Are these parts unique to the V4 Cologne engine, or were these piston/pins assemblies used on other engines?
Would Burtons perhaps have such things?
Any info appreciated.
Let me know.

You can use Cologne V6 items, but I don't see them in the Burton catalogue any more. Worth a call perhaps? You could also try the likes of Motomobil and Skandix. Remind me, what diameter are they?

Thanks for input.
They're 24 mm diameter, 70 mm long.

See you at Swedish Day!

I've drawn a complete blank trying to find Gudgeon pins, tried, Skanclassic, Burton, FW Thornton, Omega Pistons, Saab Klubben, plus another who's name I've forgotten.

Before we go ahead, and just use the old ones, turned 180 degrees, does anyone have any other ideas?

I've had good luck getting V4/ V6 parts from Ford main dealers, but tbh the last time I bought stuff there is about five years ago and it was in NL where Cologne engines were a bit more common.

You could try Sweedspeed in Neer, NL: http://www.sweedspeed.com/ They have much more than is listed on their website.

Just another thought: have you asked at automotive engineering shops? How about e.g. Pinto pins, they surely are 24mm dia, but I'm not sure on the length. Or other metric engines that use 24mm pins? Do I remember correctly they're just straight pins without grooves? It's been a while since I've removed pistons from con rods (or the other way around?).

Just plain pins.
I get the feeling that if I went into a Ford main dealer, and asked about pins for a Cologne V4, I'd probably get the same look that a little green Martian, straight of a Flying Saucer would get, ha ha ha.....
I've E mailed SweedSpeed.

Another though: I'm pretty sure all other Saab engines (90/99/C900, but also 9000, 9-3 and 9-5) use 24mm gudgeon pins, maybe it's worth inquiring over on "the other forum" about their length? If the pins are too long they can be ground to length and I wouldn't think it a problem to use washers/ spacers either side if they're a few mm short? Also (some) Volvo and Mercedes engines use 24mm pins iirc.

Edit: Summit Racing sell these (0.945" = 24mm) https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/ros-945-04-28/overview/ A tad long and not cheap though and I'm pretty sure you should be able to find something from a Euro engine that fits or can be made to fit.

I have been speaking with a chap up the road who prepares a lot of Ford engines for competition. He is going to look some out over the next day or two. He's sure he has a number. I will advise as soon as I hear.

Melle/RhysN

Thanks for your input guys.
I'll wait to see what you might find RhysN, before I decide about the source in the US.

A long shot, but might be worth trying Peja Veteranshop in Askersund, Sweden - a reasonable source of eg oversize pistons, con rods etc (see http://www.veteranshop.se/veterandelar-saab/saab-95-v4-1967/motordelar/kolvringar/), so may have access to gudgeon pins ?
No harm in asking.
