I am refurbing the brakes on my 1968 V4, LHD and I am seeking advice regarding the master cylinder. The master cylinder is Lockheed 3211-822C Q10 which has the angled top piece with 6 bolts. When I removed the top chamber, I expected to see a thin gasket which seals around the perimeter but there was a fairly substantial plate approximately 2mm thick made from some composite material. This plate has a cut-out and numerous holes.
I have seen the thin gaskets on a few web sites but I cannot find the thick plate.
What is the function of this plate and are they available ?
The full plate shown with the dismantled MC probably has 3 jobs. Besides being a seal it also serves as a fluid level indicator. This also makes it a splash plate that maintains the level in both halves of the fluid chamber.
Thanks Derek and Derek. I am beginning to understand what is going on here. Deggsie educated me on the Spirolox circlip which holds the spring retainer in. Cheers
